Installing the Metrix Server

The following is a brief overview of the installation process for the first-time installation of the Metrix Server, which consists of interactsql.adp, reportsql.adp, and the database. For a step-by-step walk through, see Step-By-Step Installation Instructions for Metrix Server.

 | Install the server first
You have to install the Metrix Server before you can install the Metrix Client. After installing the Metrix client, you have to establish a connection to the Metrix database and reference the shared library files, all of which are installed by the Metrix Server installer. You can't do so if they don't exist on your computer or on a server, i.e., if you haven't installed the server. |
Downloading and Launching the New Server Installer

Before installing the Metrix Server, check to see if you have SQL Server or Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) already installed by going to Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs. For more on how Metrix interacts with SQL Server and MSDE, see Metrix Architecture Explained.
There are a couple of options when downloading the Metrix Server installer:
"Need MSDE" installs MSDE. If you already have MSDE, choose the appropriate installer.

- Download the correct installer from http://metrix.fcny.org/.
You'll have to sign up for an account before you can download Metrix.
- Launch the installer and complete the installation wizard.
The installation wizard will take you through the steps to install the shared library files, interactsql.adp and reportsql.adp, and the database. The database is named Metrix by default. You can change its name to something more meaningful.
- Launch the configuration wizard.
The configuration wizard will set the connection from the shared library files to the database. For more information about the shared library files connecting to the Metrix database, see Metrix Architecture Explained.

You'll have to enter a password to configure the files. The default installation password for the sa user account is admin. |
